Downhome Blues

I Wanna tell you a story that you really should know,
It's an age-old story from the Gulf of Mexico,
People were dragged there from the land of their birth,
And their sweat on the ground drew a power from Mother Earth
And they trapped it in song and rhythm so they couldn't lose
What we now call the downhome blues

A hundred years later and it's spread to every land
It's in every home, every woman and man
It's moved to the TV from the radio
You can hear it in the ads or a detective show
If you're lucky someone with the knowledge will point out to you
Hey man, that's the downhome blues

There's many who love it, both young and old
And those that don't feel it? well they got a hole in their soul
Cos there ain't nothing like it to make make you feel just right
On a Monday morning or a Saturday night
And there's all kinds of styles and flavours for you to choose
Yeah I'm talking 'bout the downhome blues

Well I told you a story that you really should know,
It's an age-old story 'bout the Gulf of Mexico,
People were dragged there from the land of their birth,
And their sweat on the ground drew a power from Mother Earth
And they trapped it in song and rhythm so they couldn't lose
What we now call the downhome blues

Well they say that you don't get it, It gets you
I'm talking 'bout the downhome blues
